By Curtis Berleue | Davie Franek continued his roll with the Patriot Sprint Tour this past Saturday night, making it two wins in two starts at the Woodhull Raceway; his fourth Patriot win of the season and eighth overall.
On Friday night, the Davie Franek Racing team started the weekend at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, NY competing with the Ollies Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions. Franek time trialed eighth out of 25 cars to start the evening with a time of 15.599, which lined him up on the pole for heat race number one. He was able to come home victorious in the 8-lap affair over multi-time ASCoC champion Dale Blaney and qualify for the dash.
Lining up fourth for the dash, Franek was able to get by Paul McMahan and secure the third starting spot for the 30 lap A-Main. Ultimately, Franek fell to an 11th place finish through the course of the A-Main.
Saturday night saw the DFR crew head south to Woodhull Raceway for the second of three trips in 2019. Going off in heat one, Franek and Kyle Drum battled for the lead non-stop in the 8 lap event, with Franek coming home second and putting himself in the top 8 redraw.
Drawing the number two, Franek started on the outside of the front row for the 25 lap A-Main. Making quick work of polesitter Steve Glover, Franek pulled out to an early lead. A lap 19 restart put 5-time Patriot champion Jared Zimbardi right on the bumper of the #28f, but Franek was able fend off multiple charges from ‘The Juice’ and landed in victory lane once again.
Sunday night, the team pulled their 410 back out of the trailer and made the long tow across the state to Lebanon Valley Speedway for another night against the All Star Circuit of Champions. Franek registered the 15th quickest time in time trials with a 17.964.
Starting on the pole of heat 3, Franek picked up his second 410 heat win of the weekend, transferring him to the dash where he would start on the outside pole and come home second. Starting second in the A-Main, Franek would stay consistent throughout the event and come home a strong second behind Brock Zearfoss.
This coming weekend, the current Patriot Sprint Tour point leader will resume action with the tour north of the border, racing four times in four days. First up is Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday, followed by Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday. Then on Monday and Tuesday, Davie Franek Racing will follow the tour back to southern Ontario for two nights at the Ohsweken Speedway for the Northern Summer Nationals.
