By Curtis Berleue | After a tough finish to the previous weekend against the World of Outlaws in his home state, Davie Franek and the 28f crew had another busy 4-race weekend scheduled. As seems to be par for the course thus far in the northeast, however, it started out with a rain-out at New Egypt Speedway with the URC Sprints on Thursday May 23rd.
The following night, Franek would head north to the Brewerton Speedway with the Empire Super Sprints where he entered the night as the tour point leader for. Starting on the pole in heat three, Franek continued on for the win placing him in the redraw. Drawing an 8 for the feature, he was able to pass 5 cars for yet another podium finish on the year, coming home in third.
With the forecast looking unsettled for Central New York on Saturday morning, the 28f crew waited late into the afternoon before settling on where to race that night. Finally, it looked as though the best chance to get a full night of action in would be with the Patriot Sprint Tour at Fonda Speedway, a track Franek has had success at in the past.
Franek would start the night off drawing a 10 which would line him up second in heat two. He would go on to finish third in his heat transferring him to the top 8 redraw, where he drew the 7th starting spot for the A-Main. Unfortunately, the skies opened up shortly after the draw and the remainder of the night was re-scheduled for the Friday of the Fonda 200 weekend on September 27th.
Rounding out a busy Memorial Day weekend, the 28f headed slightly west on Sunday for another night with the Empire Super Sprints. Starting third in heat two, Franek would advance two spots for his second heat win of the weekend. Drawing the third starting spot for the A-Main, he would come home with another top-10 on the season with a 9th place finish.
Currently, Franek is tied for the lead in Patriot Sprint Tour points with Joe Trenca after two completed races and sits 4th in Empire Super Sprints points.
This coming weekend, Franek and the 28f will be in action three times starting on Friday night at Ransomville Speedway with the Patriot Sprint Tour, Saturday at with the Empire Super Sprints at Autodrome Drummond in Quebec, Canada, and again Sunday at Cornwall Motor Speedway.
